4 Summer Must Haves

15 Jun

Summer is here in South Dakota and I love to soak up every second of it! Here are some of my favorite must-haves to make the most out of what seems to be our short summer months:

  1. Hydro Jug-

Water is key to being happy and healthy all year long, however, it is even more key to be hydrated during the summer. Sweat is made of 99% water! This means that while outside enjoying the warm weather and sweating your body is losing water. This is why it is so easy to become dehydrated or even have heatstroke in the summer. That is why I love my Hydro Jug. The Hydro Jug is a 73 oz. water bottle that I carry with me everywhere. I aim to drink two Hydro Jugs every day.

  1. True Lemon

We already discussed that water is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Sometimes I’ll admit it does get boring though. Lemon is a great and healthy way to add some flavor. I’m not a big fan of having to carry around lemon slices or having lemon slices in my water. That’s why I love True Lemon. These are packets of crystallized lemon. No added sugar just lemon!

  1. Protein Powder-

Protein is an essential macronutrient that is needed to build muscle. During the summer I struggle to get enough protein in my diet. When it’s hot out I just don’t feel like eating meat. This is where protein powder is helpful for me. I either mix the powder with cold almond milk or if I have time I’ll blend it with almond milk, yogurt, and maybe some frozen fruit. Protein powder should not be the only way you consume protein but it is a good source.

  1. Frozen Fruit-

My favorite summer treats are frozen bananas and grapes! For frozen bananas, I slice a banana that is starting to brown into thin slices. I then put parchment paper in a plastic food container and evenly spread out the slices. Depending on the size of the container I do several rows of banana slices. I then stick them in the freezer and the next day I have a sweet treat! For grapes, I just leave the grapes in a small bunch and put them into Ziploc bags. After about a day in the freezer, the grapes taste like popsicles!
